I knew I was in for something special but it exceeded my expectations! Absolute bucket list activity. I was tight for time and driving to Milford Sound with a boat trip and drive home would take 12 hours or more. The helicopter trip to Milford Sound, including the boat trip, landing on a glacier, then landing back at Queenstown took 4.5 hours and freed up my afternoon for more activities. I was scheduled for a Sunday morning flight but it got cancelled due to poor weather but Glacier Southern Lakes Helicopters quickly found a spot for me the following day as they operate 3 or 4 helicopters, giving them flexibility. If you’re considering this activity, don’t hesitate. It’s worth every dollar! One word - breathtaking. Highlight was taking off from the glacier and immediately flying over a 2000m+ drop to the valley below.
